Class 3: Skills

Enrolments for term 4 are now closed.

A dog must have passed the assessment at the end of basics to be eligible to enrol in the skills class. Even if your dog has been trained elsewhere and has some experience in agility, it is a policy of WAG for any new member to begin in the foundation or basics class, at the discretion of the committee.

Most dogs spend on average 3 terms in the skills class. This is to ensure that the dogs and handlers have all the necessary capabilities and experience to progress to the development class. The skills class is a huge learning curve; in this class dogs and handlers will get used to running more complicated sequences. Furthermore, dogs will be introduced to full height contact equipment (dog walk and A-frame) and learn how to weave in a straight line. This class is where everything you have learnt in foundations and basics come together and grow, and by the time you graduate your dog will be able to successfully complete a pre-novice level course and be able to weave in a straight line. After passing this class, you and your dog will have the necessary skill set to start entering agility competitions.
